IT IS a work that marks a key turning point in Mark Rothko's career - the moment at which he embraced the abstract form, thereby turning himself into a modern icon.White Centre (Yellow, Pink, and Lavender on Rose) features three floating rectangles of colour in a cloud-like form that became Rothko's motif.
