Morph, flexible Nokia mobile

MORPH is a mobile phone prototype realized by Nokia and the University of Cambrige, it is the first one to be really flexible taking advantage from "nanotechnology".

MORPH has been presented at the MOMA of N.Y. (Museum of Modern Art) and introduces a new way to use and carry a mobile phone, it is made of autocleaning materials and represents a perfect union between Art and Science.

The Lincoln MKT Concept

The Lincoln MKT Concept is gorgeous any way you spell it, which is good since even folks at Ford are starting to lose track of all the MK model names. Din-Ink a great idea!

Dear friends, how many times we designers are looking for the great idea to realize? How many times we know that such new simple but extremely efficient concept will work?
Here a good example done by 4 italian designers: the Din-Ink!
Designers are Andrea Cingoli, Paolo Emilio Bellisario, Cristian Cellini e Francesca Fontana.

There are no words to add, this concept talks by itself. Congratulations guys I love it!

Sketching skills and computer help.

It is a while I want to write few words about this issues: sketching skills Vs Paint/Photoshop type softwares.

Why? The reason is very simple, in the last 4 years of design school visits and internet portfolio research I have seen a lot of students work done with the use of a "paint software" and did not find quality and high drawing skills .

This is a problem! Students and design schools I am talking to you...method and discipline are very important in order to put the basics for skill's developpement.

When I see a "photoshop sketch" with flash and lights and no good drawing basics I get sad. To me it is like a missed opportunity.

I ask you (students) , what is all this crap? Do you think you have a great portfolio simply because it is done with a beautiful graphic packaging? Do you think this is what we (the industry) really care about? Sorry , we would like to see your sketch-books made of pencils or ballpoint pen, evaluate your real abilities and drawing skills, judge your creativity which comes out "only" if you know how to draw.

A portfolio is credible only if it shows: creativity, drawing skills, professionalism + your verbal presentation.

It is not a case if I have been publishing lately some posts about sketches art works , before talking about this argument I wanted to give you some examples (even those done with Photoshop), good ones to follow.

In conclusion I hope that you will follow my suggestion: draw draw draw, do not get tired to excersise and when you feel ready go for next step which will be using your computer and favourites softwares for drawing.

L'Argus 2007 Design Competition: the winners

The 6th L’argus de l’automobile competition awards ceremony was held at the Eiffel Tower on last 5 December 2007. London Royal College of Art student Sergio Loureiro won the competition with his “CŒUR” concept, with the idea of optimising deliveries by exploiting the underground network at night (first upper image).

Car Design sketches

Those 2 car sketches by Miroslav Dimitrov, graduated at Coventry University of Art and Design, are a good example about how we should all sketch cars to communicate the 3D volumes we have (important to make a model in clay or on Alias) in mind and good proportions. The composition on page is simple and very clear, the focal point, too.
The shading effect is my favourite style, once again simple but correct with no excess.
