Useful, modern and trendy this "Pocket light" designed by Jin Yoon and Eun Hak. It works with a micro battery and by folding it up it lights up, very thin becomes an object nomade that could be always with us for any emergency or particular occasion. Cool stuff!

Ted Youngkin is dead, loss of a great man and ACCD teacher

Hi friends,

Ted Youngkin died yesterday (a recent photo: in his home working). The hard teacher, the one always said the truth on your face, some time rude, but very honest. Clear and highly professional in teaching Drawing and Design in ACCD Pasadena .

I had Ted as teacher in 1986 and, even if not of an easy person, he gave me the right vision of how a designer should be structured on his Drawing and Design method. He looked severe , but he was a real good man, he gave us lessons about Drawing and about life, his stories were small examples of real life professional situations and helped us to understand what would have been life after ACCD school time.
When I started to teach in design schools often I would think of him and his method, often I would try to apply his method in my classes.
Ted was very devoted and engaged to ACCD to ensure a high level of quality education, a hard worker that the american Design Education will sure miss a lot.

From Fred Fehlau Dean, Academic Affairs ACCD

"One of Art Center’s most highly revered, and sometimes feared, instructors. Born in Hawarden, Iowa, Ted first studied at the Chicago Art Institute and then graduated with a degree in Product Design from Art Center in 1954. "

From James Gourney Illustrator (ACCD)

"On the way up Highway 101 yesterday, we decided on a whim to try and visit Ted Youngkin, our favorite art teacher, who taught us everything we know about perspective (and a lot more that we’ve forgotten). I think of him every time I do a drawing."

I post it here now because I plan to continue developing this monster as I think the conception is quite challenging and fun. I will post new sketches from time to time as I have some free time on my hands.

Audi ideation sketches by Andrew Konopatov

Andrew Konopatov is a young brilliant russian designer, as you can see from his ideation sketching he has strong talent and good drawing skills. The linework on his Audi sketch is very nice showing us a tridimensional effect even without colors (variation of line quality).

DesignerTechniques.com interviews Luciano Bove

Designertechniques.com is a great website that every day gives a good service to Transportation design students and passionates of cardesign, the site is runned by Allan Macdonald.
Allan, some time ago, proposed to me an interview to talk about design schools activities I am involved with. I (and the company I work for) accepted the proposal because it would have been a great opportunity to pass on Designertechniques.com and share with a wider public what are my thoughts about Transportation Design and Design Education.
From the article:
"...Luciano Bove: in this article we find out his thoughts on car design, and what it takes to succeed as a car designer..."
Please click and read the full article, I am sure you will enjoy it. Thank you again to Allan for the interview and publication.

Vadim Artemiev and his Fiat Multipla project

This Fiat Multipla design proposal is by Vadim Artemiev and I am proposing it to you because of its good quality in terms of sketching technique and also design idea.
Here's a short description of the project written by Vadim on his blog:
"...The main goal of this project was to revise the already legendary look of the Fiat Multipla but still preserve its spirit. The concept was to keep the original seat layout formula with a new more characteristic appearance.Compact external dimensions and huge internal space are some of the main features of the Multipla..."
