After last year's successful launch, Hamburg will be celebrating its second episode of its yearly design festival.
From 5-10 October, Germany’s design metropolis Hamburg presents its biggest design event with exhibitions, shows and events located all over town. Young designers are warming up their studios and the press is getting curious about this year’s design update by Hamburg’s creative professionals.
"After the success of last year’s Hamburg Design Festival it was clear for A&W that in 2007 we would support as media partner this event again. 2007 Microsoft/IDSA Spotlight Speaker Series

Here an event having as speaker a great friend of mine designer and VP Corporate Design Plantronics, Inc. Darrin Caddes

September 19 seminar starts at 1:00 PM ET

"Body & Form: Creating Intimate Relationships Between Products and the End-User"
Competition for customer mindshare and loyalty are at all-time highs. From consumer electronics to automobiles, the market is constantly flooded with new products from around the world that provide yet one more option for your customers to choose from. The margin of error for product success has become paper thin. One misstep and customers will abandon you for a product that looks similar, has more features and costs half the price online.

How can companies succeed in fiercely competitive markets? What are the traits of successful products that customers are willing to pay premium prices for (hello, iPhone!)? What is the role of industrial design?

Please join us as Darrin Caddes explores these issues and discusses the importance of fostering customer loyalty through products that establish emotional and physical connections. Products that people are passionate about because they empower and accentuate lifestyles. Products that become extensions of the body.

Darrin Caddes is vice president of corporate design at Plantronics, responsible for leading the company’s worldwide efforts to design innovative, compelling and stylish products in the consumer and professional marketplaces. Prior to Plantronics, Caddes served as director of design for Indian Motorcycle Corporation, where he helped create and define its brand strategy and brought numerous motorcycles to market.

Before joining Indian Motorcycle, Caddes was senior designer for BMW/Designworks USA. While there, Caddes served as chief designer of the award-winning BMW R1150GS Adventure motorcycle, currently displayed in the Pinokotek Der Modern, one of Germany’s largest museums dedicated to 20th and 21st century art and design. Caddes also managed the design of several other motorcycle models as well as the design of motorcycle accessories, rider's gear, apparel and lifestyle products. Before joining BMW/Designworks USA, he was a designer with Fiat Automotive Group and was part of the development team for several show and production cars.

Caddes holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from the Art Center College of Design, where he graduated with honors.

Is blogging a good way to make money?

Apparently yes if we read all those blogs that explaine how to organize a blog or site to make money, too.

Today I was reading an article about a girl from Dretoit Ashley Qualls creator of www.whateverlife.com a free sharing site on graphics for webdesign. It looks like she became a millionaire avec her activity on the web thanks to the Google advertising program and naturally the great traffic her site is keeping on generating (lots of clicks = $$$).

She makes about 70.000 US Dollars a mounth!!!

Now I know that many of you are thinking how the hell this is possible if we arrive to make few Dollars a mounth??? Honestly I am not a guru to tell you how because I simply do not know; however, I noticed that if your content is good quality then it is easier that people click more than usual.

The "little" Ashley did not start a website to make money, but to get involved with her passion which is colors and graphics. I trhink that her passion brought her to improuve the quality of her job and visitors appreciated it and became fedels going back everyday and telling around..this provoked an increase of contacts that made the today's success for Ashley site..

So my suggestion is: write about interesting topics and do it as professional as possible.

Have a nice day!

iPod Shuffle by Apple a great Design.

Yes I have one. Actually I bought it for my wife who takes the train every morning and this fanthastic small well designed object is giving her a good company with an excellent quality sound.
The features of the iPod Shuffle are quite easy to control and manage, its "Trendy Design" makes of it an object of distinction and a very comfortable one to carry along. It is extremely light small thin and beautiful. The emotional side of its Design is very strong even if very simple. The Design message is straight, Hight Technology for a friendly perception and easy/quick use.
Realized in different fashion colors (my wife wanted it in Gray, however I love the Blue one..) it is not an expensive object for what it offers..I forgot to say that its clip is the final intelligent touch on this product.

Design appeal is: its emotional side?

What makes of an object, car, house etc. etc. to be Emotional?

Why do we feel emotionally envolved in buying a particular object? I could keep on writing millions of questions about this topic or dilemma, what happens in our brain when we see something and fall in love with it to the point that we are willing to spend more money then preview...The sportscar, the i-Phone, the Apple PC, the contemporary house by the lake, a piece of Art, a watch.......

Lot of people studied (and still do) this aspect of the human beeing specially big companies and corporations because understanding and managing this human impulse helps a lot to make money or create money!

At the end it is a question between our irrational/emotional side Vs the rational one. Now designers and the art to make Design play a big role in society to provoke markets and to create new trends. Today we cannot be happy with the "form follows function" because socially the world changed and we need again "Emotions". New technologies opened more opportunities to tease the emotional side of each one of us and Design is the vheicle to move and drive all this.

What is your opinion on the subject? Are you emotionally compulsive buyer or ,on the contrary, a very rational one?

Thanks for leaving a comment!

Luciano Pavarotti just pure emotions

Hi to all of you, it is very sad to write my first post after vacation about Big Luciano's death.
I was flying yesterday back from Italy after about four weeks of inactivity, looking at the blu sky I was thinking to download on my PC all photos and videos I have done for my family but also for my blog for all of you that everyday come back to watch what I have to propose (by the way, thanks for your presence even if in agoust I really did not do much...). I was thinking how to organize the all thing and happy to restart..so this morning I turned on my PC to read the news..the rest is already known.
It has been like if suddenly there was no electricity in the house, or when my old Renault 4 decides to live me on the road without any explanation, or for an unknown reason your PC, TV, Ipod..stop to work! STOP!BLACK! That is it! Silence...just pure silence. Then ,like magic, feeling Big Luciano's emotions, those that each one of us at least one time in life had the pleasure to feel listening to his voice, talent, art.
Now the sky owns Luciano and his art, he is gone with the wind and everytime we will be watching the sunshine or the moonlight we will see his smile and eyes and we will hear him singing.
Sure I could have ignored this sad event concentrating on my usual topics, but believe me I couldn't.
