I found on the net an article that explaines really well how to control car design proportions on your sketches and projects. The quedstion is (for beginners) how do I start to control my car design proportions proposal?
The classic rule is "the wheel" and its size. Use the wheel to create the basic frame work into which you can start sketching your side outline proposal.
The images here published are a good example of what I am trying to explane, however I suggest you to click on "Style4cars" and discover the full article with excellent lesson and images on this topic.

What I really like of this presentation (other than its Design) is the good quality of the concept sketches. Here you have a good example, good proportions, good taste in color choices, good sketching abilities, good harmony between lines and volumes.
I hope that all design students look at these sketches to understand the media used and its application method, learn from them.

Austria-based designer Adam Gompertz used all his experience of working at the MG Rover to create these outstanding sketches for a lightweight racing-derived version of the current Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
The reason I am showing you Adam's work is that it is really well done and easy to study in order to learn how he did it. On the top sketch you can see all construction lines used to build the sketch correctly. The side view is a good example of virtual media with a good use of the gray scale.

Got a third place with the Trabant in the electric city car category.
BTW: Where have I been in the past few weeks? I started to rebuild my car, an old beemer. Okay, Im only in the disassemble stage, but it was a lot of fun getting my hands dirty and to detach myself from the desk. Will show a few shots later ...

Chris Bangle quits BMW
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht9tEesLoHIb3O0pEeX23tzV4F6a1c0bw7kxVmIRCWc4HnjRyKDkFnksJ4ZDMuRxajnH7HMcDzejcKz6XbvXKUg7gmZuXD_I5Sl546Sm6XpFLO23FDNzHS6gwEXfYjcsLLpYStHH12gHwJ/s320/Chris_Bangle-thumb.jpg)
Chris Bangle has left his job position as Design director at BMW, it looks like he is moving on a new personal development not yet specified.
I hope that Chris Bangle will remain in the automobile Design business because this world still needs him, on internet i read a lot of "sorry" comments on blogs and websites. There is a big part of public that recognizes the "flame Bangle signature" on BMW cars as an important Design statement that influenced a lot of other car designs and became a sort of new philosophy.
Chris in Fiat already started to apply his philosophical method about car Design and thanks to it we had (I was there at that time) the Fiat Downtown concept, Fiat Coupé, Fiat Barchetta, Fiat Bravo Brava ...etc. etc.
In BMW, as the big big boss, he had the time to plan a real development of his philosophy that became also more mature. In 15 years the BMW's cars have changed a lot and the time demonstrated that Bangle was right (at the beginning not very well accepted) in adopting his Design philosphy.
This blog wishes the best to Chris Bangle for his new future and Design adventure hoping to see him soon as the new big man in a new car Design studio.

Jason Ho from CCS Detroit.
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR5PLB1YjoqQzS-nQnQJUylNdZgkKkd01AvDQ6fZMTnlg6Ko8e3Hs3ajqWXvkE0p-ZZGTWZAegJNt87KeTN99T77SdsLmR9INkNXtmVx8Eod-Q8IDyHgNsPmp2_CopO3iy13p5ADSHjgh7/s400/photo.jpg)
Jason Ho is aTransportation Design student at CCS in Detroit, (by the way CCS is the excellent school run by the Dean Imre Molnar a great designer and man of culture) Jason started in 2007 and will graduate in May 2011.
Currently his teacher, Scott Anderson from Chrysler Group, gave an interesting project (here some sketches by Jason).
Jason explaines to us a bit about this project: "For our assignment, we needed to come up with a product based vehicle. My concept was a 4 wheel dirt vehicle based on Motocross helmets. This is one sketch out of 40 in total, and they were all done on newsprint. I use newprint and prismacolor pencil as my preferred mediums because of the line sensitivity that can be easily achieved. The concept rendering was done in 30 minutes using quick Photoshop lighting techniques over the initial sketch."
I find it really interesting, Jason shows to have a good talent that needs to become more mature it is evident that he works hard on it an that his work is improving sketch by sketch.
Keep up the good work Jason and thanks for sharing with LB Blog!
